Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Materials
Carriage of Dangerous Goods
At City Link we are only permitted to carry Dangerous Goods that are officially classed as ‘Limited Quantities’ or ‘those that are otherwise officially ‘exempt’ as described by current legislation applicable during transit.
The ‘Shipper’, Consignor, or sender of the goods as duty holder bears legal responsibility for correctly identifying, packaging, marking and labelling all consignments containing any form of Dangerous Goods according to the requirements of the Law. Failure to do so may constitute a statutory offence.
‘Limited Quantity’ package labels are a neutral colour diamond shape containing the Specific UN number for the substance, preceded by the letters ‘UN’.
For packages containing substances with different UN numbers the limited quantity diamond labels showing each UN number may be substituted with diamond labels containing the letters ‘LQ’,(this applies to UK mainland road journeys only).
City Link will accept substances officially classed as ‘Limited Quantities’ and below are a few illustrations of some of the many ‘Limited quantity’ labels accepted. There are many more and each substance will have its own specific UN number. For advice and guidance on labelling requirements for Dangerous Goods please contact the City link Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (contact details at bottom of page).

Example of those Not Accepted

As City Link is not an ADR licensed carrier, Full ADR ‘In Scope’ Dangerous Goods are not normally accepted in the network unless they are officially ‘exempt’ or unless special permission has been granted by the DGSA to carry certain items within the law. Packages will display coloured diamond labels identifying the Class of substance. For exemptions and special conditions where these goods may be accepted please consult the City Link DGSA in every case.
City Link does not carry any Dangerous Goods by Aircraft.
